Progressive Education is hands-on experiential learning designed to provide real world skills students can leverage when they leave Monuments Academy. It is designed to help students find passion, and then practically move them into expertise and/or mastery in a give discipline.
Giving the students an opportunity to refine the wilderness and leadership skills they attained in their wilderness experience prior to arriving at Monuments Academy, this track in very popular among students. They plan, execute, and lead a variety of outdoor activities, practicing outdoor safety and survival skills. Their responsibility and stewardship of natural resources is explored and during the course of their stay, many students will complete and receive a Wilderness First Responders certification, one of the highest outdoor medical certifications available (just under an EMT).

The Digital Fabrication and Design track helps students develop marketable skills in 3D design and production by giving them an opportunity to use top-tier Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. Through practical application and learning modules, students render their designs using laser engravers, 3D printers, and CNC routers in Monuments’ makerspace.

Going beyond basic riding skills, this track develops professional horsemanship skills. Students learn to work with horses and refine the horse’s skills and abilities. Through principle based training, students increase their groundwork and riding skills, eventually working their way up to training the program’s rescued mustangs.

This track focuses on developing marketable skills in digital photography and editing photographs. Each class period, the instructor teaches a specific concept or skill they students go to locations on and off-campus to practice those skills. Returning to the classroom, they receive instruction on how to process and use top-tier photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop and others.

This program was developed to introduce students to the increased opportunities, job demands, and creative expressions available using drone technology. Students learn the technical skills of operating drones, repairing them, and using the video and photography output created while in flight. Students take the footage and develop meaningful content including complete video productions utilizing the latest graphic design software. These projects are not only professional but are relevant and students begin to see how their learning can be used in their personal, academic, and professional pursuits.

At the end of each Progressive course, students create their own WIX website to showcase their work and final projects. This website serves as a virtual portfolio of the students’ work which they can use after they graduate from Monuments academy, for both work and school opportunities.
